MAPBM 5+5 Project at Wentworth Falls School of Arts
2 May 2025
What do you remember about the Wentworth Falls School of Arts?
MAPBM is presenting an exciting project in May 2025 to help reactivate the Wentworth Falls School of Arts. The project will involve an exhibition that will parallel the cultural history of the School of Arts with MAPBM’s own history of contemporary art making and exhibiting.
As part of this project MAPBM is seeking personal stories and memories about the past activities and events that have taken place at the School of Arts. Anyone who has a story to tell about a dance, an exhibition, a play, fete, daffodil festival or general activity connected to this heritage listed building is invited to share their past experiences.
The Wentworth Falls School of Arts is currently used for concerts, plays, recitals, seminars, art lectures and exhibitions. It also houses the Wentworth Falls branch of the Blue Mountains Library. Since it was built in 1914-15, it has played a part in the cultural life of Wentworth Falls and the broader region.
Modern Art Projects Blue Mountains (MAPBM) is gathering oral histories and historical information to compile a comprehensive record about the Wentworth Falls School of Arts history. This will be archived at the Blue Mountains Historical Society and inspire the theme for an upcoming exhibition at the Wentworth Falls School of Arts.
Contribute to this exciting archive and exhibition project by sharing any memories of your past engagement with this historic Arts and Crafts building designed by Herbert Dennis. Contact the project curator Cassandra Hard Lawrie to find out more at hardlawrie.art@gmail.com
This project is supported by Blue Mountains City Council and the Blue Mountains City of the Arts Trust Grants Program.
